Pangkor Holiday - 24th - 26th Nov 2010

First time to Pangkor. Our previous trip was in 2004 at Island Beach Resort, which is a private beach and we didn't go out from the resort. This trip we took a boat from Lumut straight to Pangkor Island. From Pangkor Island Jetty, we took a pink taxi straight to the hotel - Sandy Beach Resort, which located at Pasir Bogak. This is a brand new 3 star hotel in Pangkor, which is just 8 months old when we arrived. Pasir Bogak is a beautiful beach in Pangkor where you can view sunrise and sunset from the beach.

After checked-in, the first thing that we did was jumped into the pool. The children are the most happy and enjoying their time. Then we had dinner at the newly opened restaurant just located beside the hotel. It is a nicely arranged, but then the choice of food and the service are very poor. We walked back to the hotel wishing how nice to find a Nasi Kandar stall now.

The next day morning after breakfast, we took a boat trip round Pangkor Island. It was a nice journey with snorkelling and feeding the fish. After the boat trip, we went back to the hotel and jump back to the pool. It was at 12.30 pm and the sun is just straight on our head. But, since the room was not clean yet by the hotel, we just continue swimming while the hotel cleaning up the room. Since it was hot, I saw one old Indian guy- around 50 plus year old (I got to know that he was the owner) to help us to open the umbrella by the swimming pool. While I'm figuring out on how to open the umbrella, he started shouting at me not to try to open it if I doesn't know how. He then open the umbrella for us. Me and my mom was stunned with the rudeness of this guy. He could just talk to us politely. He don't have to scream. Further more, he's the owner, and he should have hospitality in hospitality business. Well, I'm not going to make him spoil my holiday. "Just ignore him mom".... I said to mom when she was mumbling on the service.

Well, we then had lunch at one of the stall located in front of the hotel. Not so nice stall, but lovely food. The Laksa and the fried springy noodle was fabulous. After our stomach full, we send the children to mom's room to rest. Me and hubby then took a motorcycle ride around Pangkor Island.

It was fun. We went to the Historic Dutch City and then straight to Telok Dalam. During our journey there, the hill was so stiff and at some part I have to walk because the motorcycle cannot climb further. Telok Dalam have a very nice and calm beach with a nice resort located there. Riding motorcycle with hubby was fun and this is the time that we have to spend together. Short and precious.

We had a dinner at the Hotel restaurant this time. It is called Sandy Spoon. The children had a chicken chop, I'm having the Grilled Chicken with barbecue sauce, mom having pan grilled fish with cheesy sauce and hubby having Fried Noodle. The noodle was nice, and not bad for the Chicken chop and the Grilled Fish, but my Grilled Chicken was a disaster. It is fried, not grilled. And the barbecue sauce so called was actually a chilli sauce. The chicken was hard and I would grade it 2 in a scale of ten. Very lousy. And it was raining hard that night. We went to bed early feeling tired and exhausted.

The next day morning we woke up at 8.30 am. It's checking out day. We're going home and I am looking forward for that. After breakfast the children jump into the pool for one last time, and was monitored by mom while me and hubby walk out to buy some new clothes at the souvenir shop opposite. And when we're back, mom was complaining on the owner-the old Indian guy again. He was scolding my nephew for his curiousity at the drain beside the pool, and scold my mom to watch over him and was warning my mom that the thing was expensive. What a lousy old man who doesn't know how to treat children and guests. We didn't stay here for free. Uncle, maybe you should go and learn hospitality before you open this business. But, we doesn't want him to spoil the holiday mood. We just ignore him.

During checking out time I told the reception that the hotel was good, but we dislike the old Indian guy uncle, and he told us that he was the owner. I was surprised. Well, overall, we enjoyed the trip. Nice hotel, but service was not satisfactory. We may consider staying at other hotel on our next trip. We don't mind staying at Sandy Beach Hotel again, but they must learn hopitality to improve.
